What is ELV / ESL?

It is an electronic steering lock which is powered by a motor.
At times, it malfunctions but it can be repaired easily or use emulator.
If you are facing any of the issues mentioned below then it means your ELV/ESL needs to be replaced.

  • Car won’t start.
  • Dashboard lights wont turn on
  • Steering wheel can’t be unlocked
  • Auto parts wont respond when the ignition is switched on

What is it for ?

Emulator is used to check an electronic steering column lock?

This small PCB emulates ELV (steering lock module)

Works with:

BMW E81 BMW E60
BMW E82 BMW E61
BMW E87 BMW E63
BMW E90 BMW E64
BMW E91 Mini R55
BMW E92 Mini R56
BMW E93

  • Also works on 3 pin ELV units such as what is found in BMW mini's
  • Plug & Play no additional programming necessary
  • Two LEDs RED/GREEN confirmation about status operation

NOTICE

In some cases must clear CAS error memory and counters with diagnostic tool.

Sometimes after installation CAS, need LOCK and UNLOCK via Remote (emulator signalize this behaviour) , In this case need close all doors and lock car via remote wait some seconds and unlock.

  • 100% of the time this device will fix your problem as long as you have a FAULTY ELV.
  • It won’t fix your problem if you have a faulty CAS unit.
  • It’s your responsibility to make sure your ELV is faulty and you don’t have a fault elsewhere in the system.

How to install the emulator?

Installation procedure is very simple:

Remove trim panel under steering column (3 screws). Disconnect the 3 or 4 pin plug from your ELV unit. That is located approximately in the middle of the steering column

(If exists, Pin 4 is only a high current power line which powers the ELV module mechanical parts. This is not used by the emulator, since it does not contains any mechanical parts. So don't worry, this emulator will be good for 3 and 4 pin ELV modules too.)

Plug and Play - no additional programming necessary
Simply remove the 4 pin connector from your ELV unit,
Plug the connector onto the emulator and start the car.
